Deadpool: Get To Know Ed Skrein’s Villain Ajax

Deadpool is the guy we love to hate: the misunderstood bad guy who sometimes has a heart of gold. He’s basically Wolverine, but he’s not a part of the X-Men. Enter Ajax, his nemesis, the bad guy who’s not so misunderstood… or is he?

Deadpool is set to premiere in 2016, and it has every superhero fanatic biting their nails in anticipation. Who exactly is Ajax? According to Cinema Blend, Ed Skrein, the actor behind Ajax, gave some insight into the villain at the San Diego Comic-Con.

“I think the rest of the world sees him as a bad guy. Me, I just think he is misunderstood. His name is ‘Ajax,’ or ‘Francis.’ He went through the same Weapon X program [as] Wolverine, and Deadpool later.”

If you’ve seen X-Men Origins: Wolverine, you would already know all about the Weapon X program. In case you didn’t, the Weapon X program is basically an evil program that took people against their will and tried to make them into weapons. It didn’t always work, and lots of people died. As it turns out, Deadpool/Wade Wilson and Ajax/Francis hated each other during the Weapon X program and when they became their alter egos, they just continued that rivalry. In the new Deadpool movie, fans will get to see the evolving relationship between Deadpool and Ajax.

According to Comic Book, the reason Ajax is sociopathic is because of all the experiments that they conducted on him during the Weapon X program.

“His superpowers are that he feels nothing. So he feels no pain. But also psychologically what’s interesting is that there are huge parts of his mind that’s missing – the social responsibilities and all those things. So it’s a very interesting character. He really doesn’t feel that much, so I suppose he’s a sociopath in the truest sense.”

This turned out to be one of the reasons he could not get along with Deadpool. Ajax didn’t like Deadpool’s flippant behavior and threatened him, saying he needed to show respect, or his friends would pay the price. After Ajax escapes from the project, he continues with his vendetta against Deadpool and everyone associated with Weapon X.

Brace yourself, Marvel fans — it gets even better. Ed Skrein mentioned to IGN that it would be possible for the new Deadpool/Ajax nemesis duo to potentially form a larger part of the X-Men world.

“The possibilities are endless in the wonderful world of Marvel. That’s what so exciting.”

Deadpool fans are still holding out hope that Wolverine will make a cameo appearance in the film.

There are still several months still to go before it’s official release, so in the meantime, enjoy the Deadpool trailer.
