Apple Debuts New iPod Touch Ahead Of New iPhone 6s, MacBook Pro, And MacBook Air

Apple surprised the tech world by unveiling the new iPod Touch, a device many people thought was dead. The Verge has the news.

“The iPod Touch is getting some new innards: a 64-bit chip for faster performance and gaming (Apple’s A8); a motion co-processor to track physical activity (the M8); and an 8-megapixel camera on the rear — all updates that bring the touch more in line with the iPhone 6. The touch starts at $199 for a 16GB model and now goes all the way up to $399 for 128GB model.”

The Verge notes that the iPod Touch hasn’t been updated in nearly three years. The screen won’t see an update; it will be 4.0 inches while the regular iPhone has increased its size to 4.7-inches. The new iPod Touch can be purchased now at Apple’s site.

The new iPod Touch is one of several new products Apple is set to launch this year. According to Venture Capital Post, Apple is also set to upgrade the MacBook Air in October.

“The upcoming MacBook Air 2016 has been speculated by previous reports for having different variants. The base model is expected to offer 4GB of RAM and 128GB SSD, while a step-up model with a 256GB SSD and a top-tier model with a Core i7 CPU, 8GB of RAM, and 512GB SSD may be available.”

Other sources believe that Apple will finally upgrade the MacBook Air with a Quad HD Retina screen. The 2016 MacBook Air will also allegedly be thinner. It’s possible that Apple may wait until Christmas season, when the Intel Core M-based Skylake processors are available in large quantities.

Besides the release of the 2016 MacBook Air, Apple’s 2016 MacBook Pro could also see a fall release. Gotta Be Mobile believes that one should definitely hold off until the 2016 version comes out.

“The 2016 MacBook Pro will no doubt include yet another performance boost over the 2015 model, but that’s not the main reason as to why you should wait for the next refresh. The real reason is because of the new 12-inch MacBook that was released earlier this year.”

Gotta Be Mobile believes that the new MacBook Pro will take on some of the incredible design aspects of the new MacBook, including the thinner design and all-in-one USB-C port, which many believe represents the future of computing. They also believe the new MacBook Pro may have a Thunderbolt port, as well.

2015 has been a great year for Apple, despite the poor reception of the Apple Watch. While some may consider the iPod Touch update unnecessary, Apple certainly knows what they are doing.
