‘Suicide Squad’s’ Margot Robbie Saved Jared Leto’s Very Special Gift

While Suicide Squad is filming Jared Leto, proving that he dove into method acting head first, gave all of his cast members an odd gift as the Joker.

Adam Beach, who plays Slipknot in Suicide Squad, spoke to E! about the gifts that Jared Leto gave the whole cast. For instance, Jared Leto as The Joker gave bullets to Will Smith, who plays Deadshot in the Suicide Squad, and he gave Margot Robbie, who plays Harley Quinn, a live rat with a love letter.

Margot was Elle magazine’s cover, and opened up about her unique gift from Leto. She admitted that she actually kept the rat as a pet because it’s what her character, Harley Quinn, would have done. Great minds think alike when it comes to Robbie and Leto. She said the following of her rat, which she named Rat Rat.

“If Harley got something from Joker, she’d probably cherish it.”

As for Beach, he described just how into The Joker Jared was, and how that set the tone for the rest of the film. Of the video that Leto made for the entire cast in character, Beach said, “Basically, what he said was, ‘Guys, I can’t be there but I want you to know I’m doing my work as hard as you guys. The video he showed is in character. It blew our minds away. Then we realized that day, this is real. … He encompasses this beautiful man and he shows it in, ‘Hello, how are you?’ But in an instant, he goes to psychotic behavior where you’re in fear. But you love him because he has both of those genuine sides.”

Since Warner Bros. decided to release footage from Suicide Squad after a low quality version of the footage was leaked from the Comic Con panel, there were varying opinions on Jared Leto’s Joker.
