Gal Gadot On Becoming Wonder Woman: ‘It Was Like An Out-Of-Body Experience’

Wonder Woman wowed at the 2015 San Diego Comic-Con this weekend with her first onscreen appearance in the Batman v. Superman trailer. Gal Gadot, who portrays Wonder Woman, appeared at “The Women Who Kick A**” panel along with actresses Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones), Hayley Atwell (Agent Carter), Jenna Coleman (Doctor Who), and Kathy Bates (American Horror Story). The panel was moderated by Entertainment Weekly’s Sara Vilkomerson.

Gal Gadot shared that when she first auditioned for Wonder Woman, she didn’t know what role she was auditioning for.

“Two years ago, I was in Los Angeles and they told me that Warner Bros. wanted me to audition for something. I didn’t know what it was, but I did an audition. I got back to Israel and everything was great, and then Zack Snyder called and said, ‘We’re going to need you for a camera test.’ He asked, ‘Do you know what you’re testing for? Do you have Wonder Woman in Israel?’ My jaw dropped. And then I tried to play it cool and say, ‘Yeah, of course!'”

The Wonder Woman actress also spoke about her thoughts upon first seeing the concept art and costume as well as what it felt like to take on the role of Wonder Woman.

“It was like an out of body experience because there was this little girl from Israel becoming Wonder Woman. I love the way they made the costume look, and I think it really represents the Wonder Woman of today. I’m very, very grateful to be the one to bring her to life.”

Gadot added, “I’m inspired by Wonder Woman. It’s going to be great.”

The details of Wonder Woman’s role in the film have been kept tightly under wraps, and remains so. While Gadot is shown in the Batman v. Superman trailer dressed up as Diana Prince and in costume as Wonder Woman, more questions of what her role in the fight will be have been raised.

Gal did share with the audience that her Wonder Woman “really represents the Wonder Woman of today.” The actress added she went through “beautiful, interesting research” for the character with Batman v. Superman director Zack Snyder.

Cinema Blend theorizes she could be fighting alongside Batman as photos have surfaced of Gadot’s Diana Prince and Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne looking cozy together at a black-tie event. During the few seconds of Wonder Woman in action, she definitely appears to be fighting against someone with super strength. Could that someone be the Man of Steel?

Batman v. Superman’s premiere will not only be the first big screen appearance of Wonder Woman but will also coincide with her 75th birthday in comics. What do you think of Wonder Woman’s appearance in the trailer?
