Death Race 2012: Jersey Cops Lead 100 MPH Convoy To Atlantic City

Someone’s bound to get a ticket when dozens of Porsches, Lamborghinis, Ferraris, and other exotic sports cars go on a high speed cruise down the Garden State Parkway to Atlantic City at speeds in excess of 100 mph. Luckily, NFL player Brandon Jacobs and his sports car buddies had two police escorts. No one got a ticket during “death race 2012” but a few cops could lose their jobs.

According to USA Today, dozens of sports cars were escorted by two New Jersey Cops to Atlantic City on March 30th. One cop drove at the front of the group, the other in the back, as they hit triple digit speeds down the highway.

The Star-Ledger reports that: “Two State Police patrol cars with their emergency lights flashing driving in front of and behind the southbound caravan, which included dozens of Porsches, Lamborghinis, Ferraris and other vehicles, all with their license plates covered with tape.”

The high-speed convoy, which has been dubbed “death race 2012,” reportedly bullied cars off the road. One car ended up in a ditch. Another wrote an email to the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, saying:

“I had the great pleasure today of nearly being killed by, not one, but two, Lamborghinis traveling in excess of 110 mph in a (police) escorted ‘caravan’ of approximately 30 exotic vehicles all traveling well over 100 mph.”

Brandon Jacobs’ agent confirmed that the NFL player was part the convoy but didn’t give any details. The agent said: “Brandon was part of a group that went down to Atlantic City on March 30.”

The New Jersey Police are currently investigating the incident. Michael Drewniak, a spokesman for Chris Christie, said:

“This is a very serious and disturbing matter for a couple of reasons but particularly in terms of the disregard for public safety by all those allegedly involved.”

Paul Loriquet, a spokesman for Attorney General Jeffrey Chiesa, added:

“This is a very disturbing situation, one that the attorney general and the superintendent of the state police take very seriously. Anyone responsible for this incident clearly exercised extremely poor judgment. Swift action will be taken upon completion of our investigation.”
