Angel Di Maria ‘Agrees’ To Paris Saint-Germain Transfer

Angel Di Maria has reportedly “agreed” to join Paris Saint-Germain after just one season at Manchester United.

French publication Le Parisien, via The Mirror, have alleged that the Argentinian has agreed to a deal in earnest with the French champions to join them at some point over the summer.

It’s thought that, in order for Di Maria to seal his move to Paris Saint-Germain, they will need to pay $66 million for the forward. That equates to around £43 million, and if that proves to be the amount, it would represent a substantial loss for Manchester United, who paid £59.7 million ($91.75 million) to Real Madrid for Di Maria just last summer.

Le Parisien, via the Daily Star, insist that Manchester United are willing to accept as little as £43 million for Di Maria. Paris Saint-Germain are also willing to offer United’s Gregory Van Der Wiel, their right-back, in order to try and sweeten the deal too.

However, the fact that Manchester United are on the brink of completing the transfer of Matteo Darmian from Torino means that their pursuit of a right-back isn’t as important as earlier in the summer.

It’s long been rumored that Angel Di Maria is unhappy with living in England, and that he’d much rather move to the French capital. Di Maria’s house in Manchester was burgled earlier this year while he was inside it with his wife and young child. This led to the trio living the rest of the year in a hotel.

Paris Saint-Germain had previously attempted to purchase Di Maria from Real Madrid, but were pipped to his signature by Manchester United last summer. That was mostly down to the restrictions that had been implemented by Fifa’s financial fairplay regulations. These have since been relaxed.

Di Maria signed for Manchester United for the British transfer record fee after a stunning season for Real Madrid, where he had been an integral member of the side that won the 2013/2014 Champions League final.

After a blistering start for Manchester United that saw him score two goals in his opening two games, Di Maria then found himself blighted by injuries. Once he regained his fitness, Di Maria was unable to get back into the Manchester United side. In fact he spent the back-end of the season on the bench.

This increased speculation that Di Maria would eventually leave Old Trafford, however Louis Van Gaal is confident that he’ll stay.
