Ever since UFC incorporated a women’s strawweight division, one of the fighters establishing herself as a rising star is Paige VanZant. Because of her near-perfect record of 5-1-0 and presence on social media (where she showed off her bedroom skills), many in the MMA community believed UFC was making her the new face of their promotion, eventually replacing Ronda Rousey whenever she decides to become a full-time actress or possibly a professional wrestler.
Presently, Paige VanZant is sitting on cloud nine coming off a victory against Felice Herrig, but that may end this coming September. It is now confirmed VanZant will make her UFC return at UFC 191 when she takes on Alex Chambers.
According to ESPN W, Paige VanZant confirmed she would take on Alex Chambers at UFC 191 via social media on Wednesday, July 1, 2015. The pay-per-view event will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. UFC officials have not announced the fight’s placement on the card. But given the fact that Chambers isn’t even in the Top Ten for the women’s strawweight division, it is highly unlikely it will be placed on the main card.
However, it should be reported that Alex Chambers not being on the Top 10 doesn’t mean she isn’t a contender in the division. Chambers has the same number of wins as Paige VanZant but also has a higher percentage of finishes. On the other hand, VanZant has fought more prominent strawweight fighters, especially Tecia Torres and as mentioned before, Felice Herrig, as recorded on Sherdog.
UFC 191 will happen on Saturday, September 5, 2015. A main event has not been announced as of yet. That makes sense given the fact that UFC 189 (Chad Mendes vs. Conor McGregor) and UFC 190 (Ronda Rousey vs. Bethe Correia) are still on their way.
