‘General Hospital’ News: Anthony Geary’s Final Air Date As Luke Spencer Revealed
General Hospital fans know that Anthony Geary is leaving the role of Luke Spencer this summer, and now there is news out detailing his final air date. Luke and Laura are in the midst of one last great adventure together and viewers can now count down to when it all wraps up.
Though it’s hard for many General Hospital fans to believe, Anthony Geary is wrapping up his stint as Luke Spencer for good this time around. While it’s been said that the door will always remain open for Luke to return to Port Charles, Geary’s intent is clearly that this is his final farewell to the character. Though the actor has taken lengthy breaks and vacations in the past, this time he’s not planning a return.
It’s been known for a bit now that Luke Spencer would depart Port Charles sometime in July. According to Entertainment Weekly, Geary’s last General Hospital episode will air on July 27. Though the actor has had some mixed feelings about his iconic character’s farewell, he says that his time with the soap opera has been an exciting ride that’s been well worth it.
As TVLine notes, Geary has played the role of Luke Spencer on-and-off for 37 years now, and he confirmed his plans to depart back in May. He has won eight Daytime Emmy Awards, but he says that he’s weary of the grind of doing the show. A difficult back surgery last year reportedly contributed to the actor’s decision to make some life changes and embrace some downtime on a more permanent basis.
Viewers have already seen Genie Francis return in the role of Laura Spencer. While Luke and Laura are currently searching for their son Lucky, who has been kidnapped, it doesn’t sound as if Luke and Laura will ride off into the sunset together. Francis is expected to stick around Port Charles for at least a while this fall.
General Hospital spoilers have already revealed that Jonathan Jackson will be back on the show for a bit and he will be rescued, as he was seen in a recent preview knocking on Liz’s door in Port Charles. Holly has returned and her son with Luke, Ethan, is going to be in the mix of things too.
Long-time fans are bracing themselves for this final farewell to Anthony Geary and the character of Luke Spencer, though until now, they only had a fuzzy idea of when the big Luke and Laura adventure would end. Now General Hospital fans can officially start the countdown to Geary’s final air date of July 27.
