France Terror Attack: Top Suspect Reportedly Took Selfie With Severed Head Of Victim

A little over 24 hours after the grisly terrorist attack in France, we now have more grisly details coming out. The top suspect in the terror attack, a man identified as Yassine Salhi, reportedly took a selfie with the severed head of his victim and sent it to a friend on Whatsapp. According to ABC News, the grisly photo was sent to a phone number in Canada.

French investigators who have arrested Yassine, as well as his sister, allege that the duo had connections with Islamists in Syria. Meanwhile, a group of investigators believe that the person to whom the selfie was sent is currently located in Syria. However, this is pending an investigation. In fact, investigators are still waiting for solid proof to emerge that would connect this latest terror attack in France to radical foreign groups.

Yassine Salhi, a truck driver who worked at a U.S.-owned chemical company, allegedly drove his truck into the warehouse of the firm and killed his employer. Later, he allegedly beheaded his victim and hung the victim’s head on the factory gate.

No organization has come forward to claim responsibility for this latest attack in France. However, the incident happened just days after ISIS militants urged its followers to execute attacks all over the globe during the holy Muslim month of Ramadan. The style of execution was also reminiscent of ISIS’ own style which is known to behead its captives.

According to Agnes Thibault-Lecuivre, an official from the Paris prosecutor’s office, the suspect behind the terror attack was uncooperative at the start. However, he has now started speaking to investigators.

Apart from the brother-sister duo, another unknown suspect was arrested on Friday — but was later released without being charged. Salhi and his sister can be held for up to four days in police custody under French terrorism laws. After the fourth day, officials would have to either release them or hand them preliminary charges.

On Saturday, several hundreds turned out in the region where the attack took place to honor the slain businessman, Herve Cornara. People described the victim as a kind, humble human being.

Leila Bouri, a neighbor of the victim, was shocked at his death.

“Cornara lived on the fifth floor, me on the fourth. He spoke with all the young people in the neighborhood. He didn’t differentiate between (non-Muslim) French and Muslims. If you ever had a problem, you would go see him.”

Leila, who is also a Muslim, added;

“When I heard this, I was shocked. It’s shameful. I am a Muslim, but you can’t kill like this. It’s not who we are. In Islam, we’re not told to slit throats. We only slit the throats of sheep. You don’t slit the throats of people.”
