Taylor Swift In Talks To Perform At Halftime Of Super Bowl 50, But Katy Perry Feud Could Get In The Way

Taylor Swift is reportedly in talks to headline the halftime show at Super Bowl 50, but the pop superstar’s feud with another famous singer could be a sticking point in the negotiations.

Reports from Radar Online indicated that the NFL is close to completing a deal to make Taylor the featured halftime performer, a coveted position that was held by Katy Perry last year.

That could be a problem for Swift, however. The two singers have been in a feud, and sources say Taylor Swift is uneasy with the idea of following up Perry.

“Her main holdup is performing the year after Katy Perry did it, but she also feels it’s the right way to close out the 1989 chapter of her career,” a source told Radar Online.

The bad blood dates back more than a year, when Katy Perry reportedly hired some of Taylor’s backup dancers to join her own tour. Taylor took the move badly, calling out Katy (though not by name) in interviews.

“For years, I was never sure if [this singer and I] were friends or not,” Swift told Rolling Stone. “She would come up to me at awards shows and say something and walk away, and I would think, ‘Are we friends, or did she just give me the harshest insult of my life?'”

Swift later said Perry’s business move was ruthless.

“She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me,” Taylor said.

“And I’m surprisingly non-confrontational — you would not believe how much I hate conflict. So now I have to avoid her. It’s awkward, and I don’t like it.”

The feud spilled over into Taylor’s new album, with the track “Bad Blood” reportedly about the feud with Katy Perry.

But it appears that Taylor Swift is moving past the feud and is close to confirming her spot in the Super Bowl halftime show.

Fox Sports reported on the story.

“The report goes on to state that talks have progressed to such a point that the 25-year-old Swift already has selected who she wants as director of the typically over-the-top, often-overwrought exercise in excessively grandiose musical performance extravaganzas. But at least one hurdle remains, and as is often the case, and it apparently will ultimately revolve around the almighty dollar.”

Sources say Taylor Swift is just waiting for financial components from the NFL, and will soon be officially signing on to perform the Super Bowl 50 halftime show.
