Ramsey County Deputy, And K-9 Handler, Caught On Security Video Beating Dog [Graphic Video]

Brett Berry, 48, a deputy and K-9 handler from Ramsey County, has been charged with animal cruelty after he was caught on a security camera video slamming a dog to the ground and beating it. He was at the Black Bear Casino with his K-9 partner to attend, along with other law enforcement canine handlers, the K-9 trials, which provides training and certification purposes, according to the Northlands News Center.

The Casino staff had asked Berry to leave prior to his attack on the dogs, although the reason he was asked to leave hasn’t been specified. After he was asked to leave, security watched Berry go to his room to collect his things and his K-9 partner. He was seen becoming angry with the dog and slamming it to the ground. The dog got away and ran for the casino, becoming stuck in the vestibule. When Berry caught up to the K-9, he is seen on video repeatedly hitting the dog, according to the Examiner. CAUTION: the video is disturbing. The link to the video can be found here.

The Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office is troubled by the allegations. Berry was then sent home from the trials, and he was placed on administrative leave. Berry has been charged with one count of assaulting a public safety dog and one count of animal cruelty. The dog was examined by a veterinarian and was found to not be injured physically. The K-9 is in the care of others.

What type of penalty do you think that Berry should receive? Do you think that he should be able to handle K-9s in his employment after this? Do you think that he should be able to have pets personally after seeing how he treated his K-9 partner? Please leave your comments below.

Another professional who works with animals was recently found not guilty of killing a cat. Texas veterinarian Kristen Lindsey posted a picture on Facebook of her holding a cat with an arrow through its head. The photo went viral and she lost her job as animal advocates around the globe showed their wrath through social media posts. But this vet will not face criminal charges even after bragging about killing a cat with a bow and arrow. An Austin County Grand Jury declined to indict Lindsey. The grand jury returned a “no bill” decision, meaning that there was insufficient evidence and no criminal charges will be pressed against Lindsey, according to an article on the Inquisitr.
