Kanye West Blames Mother’s Death On His Move To L.A.

Rapper Kanye West opened up about the tragic death of his mother, Donda West, in a recent interview.

According to Us Weekly, the 38-year-old rapper was asked by Q Magazine to identify what he has had to sacrifice in this life in exchange for his successful music career and lifestyle.

Kanye’s response to the question was a simple two-word answer: “my mom.” Even though he did not go into detail, he briefly mentioned what he felt was to blame for her untimely passing back in 2007.

“If I had never moved to L.A. she’d be alive. I don’t want to go far into it because it will bring me to tears.”

A plastic surgery procedure was conducted on Donda West in California back in 2007 which progressively led to the deterioration of the 58-year-old college professor’s health. Kanye West’s mother was admitted into a hospital located in Marina del Rey, California, and passed away on November 10.

According to a statement issued by the coroner, Donda died of heart disease in addition to suffering from numerous “post-operative factors.”

“The final manner of death could not be determined. Multiple post-operative factors could have played a role in the death. The exact contribution of each factor could not be determined. There was no evidence of a surgical or anesthetic misadventure.”

In the years that have passed since Donda West passed, Kanye West has worked hard to continue succeeding in the music industry — a career that his mother enjoyed personally as a fan and managed professionally for the All Day rapper.

Before retiring so that she could manage Kanye West’s career until her death, Donda spent over 20 years working for the English Department of Chicago State University. Over the years, Kanye West has found quite a few creative ways to pay tribute to his mother — before and after her death.

His 2005 single, the beautiful ballad titled “Hey Mama,” was dedicated to Donda West.

One week after her death, Kanye West attempted to perform the song in Paris but broke down in tears on stage.

In January 2012, Kanye West announced the formation of his new creative company — which was named after his mother (DONDA).

Kanye West released “Only One” on New Year’s Eve 2014 — a hit single in which Kanye spoke to his daughter, Nori, from the perspective of his late mother.

Kanye’s wife, reality star Kim Kardashian, made it clear that “Only One” was her favorite song from her husband’s expanding catalog of singles because of its connection to Donda West.

Only time will tell what else Kanye West does in the future to pay tribute to his mother either personally or professionally.
