It was also posted on the official Instagram page of the Broadway production and later re-posted by Taye Diggs. In an interview with People magazine, Taye had a chance to open up about his experience as Hedwig so far, as he prepares for his first performance in late July.

“Hedwig is the role of a lifetime. I’m looking forward to being challenged performance-wise on many levels, as well as being humbled by the musical’s social implications. I also like wearing nail polish.”

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Taye Diggs will take on the role of Hedwig in Hedwig and the Angry Inch for a 12-week run in New York City, starting July 22.

From the responses and reactions to Taye Diggs’ first photo as Hedwig, it is clear that he has lot of fans and critics desperately waiting for his first performance.

Diggs will be replacing Glee actor Darren Criss when he makes his stage debut as the transgender rock star, but there are quite a few others that have filled the same shoes before them both.

Neil Patrick Harris was the first star of the Broadway show’s revival and won a Tony for his performance.

Other impressive names on the growing Hedwig list include Dexter actor Michael C. Hall, Andrew Rannells, as well as the musical’s co-writer, John Cameron Mitchell.

This will not be the first time that Taye Diggs has been featured on the Broadway stage. However, it has been over ten years since Diggs appeared in the award-winning musical, Wicked, back in 2004.
