Hannibal Revival May Already Be In The Works

Hannibal, a beloved television show for many viewers, was canceled on Monday by NBC. Since the cancellation, a campaign has been started to find a new home for Hannibal. Bryan Fuller, the show’s creator and producer, confirmed to IGN that discussion are in the works to save Hannibal and find the eerie drama a new home.

Currently, Hannibal has a deal with Amazon, and its three seasons stream exclusively on Amazon Prime in the United States. This could create quite a mess if Netflix wants to jump on the Hannibal bandwagon.

Fuller sat down with Deadline to talk about the survival of Hannibal and the possibility of a revival. He said that at the moment, there is a 50/50 chance that Hannibal will be coming back to our television. Fuller explained that it might not be feasible for Netflix to pick up Hannibal because of the deal with Amazon.

In a Variety interview, Fuller said, “All I know is that things are being discussed with venues to see how interested they actually are. I don’t know to what extent. Without an NBC component, it’s a little complicated. Even some of our international partners, because there’s no NBC component, will pass on a fourth season.”

As of right now, it looks like Amazon is the front runner to bring Hannibal back to its loyal fans. Others that could be in the running include Syfy, USA or Esquire, which are all NBC-owned cable stations. Fuller said the Netflix has expressed great interest in bringing Hannibal to their streaming system, but he isn’t sure if it can work out.

Many believe that if Hannibal was to leave a broadcast network, it would open the door for Hannibal to be a lot more gritty, in keeping with the books and movies. Fuller said that he didn’t think that would necessarily happen, though. Yes, they can use more strong language and show nudity, but he doesn’t know if those components would be vital to Hannibal and its resurrection.

Fuller added that he hoped Hannibal will see a season four and five, in hope to be able to tell Clarice’s story. He said that season four will be based on something from one of the books, but he didn’t want to betray his fans or the season finale of Hannibal to tell us what will be happening.

As of right now, the fate of Hannibal is up in the air, and the possibility of it coming back is slim, but Amazon may surprise us and bring it back to life on Amazon Prime.

How do you feel about Hannibal going to a streaming network? Would you still watch Hannibal if it was on a network like Amazon Prime or Netflix?
