Abandoned Blind Dog And His Guide Dog Searching For A Home

An abandoned blind dog and his guide dog are searching for a home.

The two dogs, Glenn and Buzz, are a unique pair. Glenn, a medium-sized Jack Russell Terrier, is blind and Buzz, a large Staffordshire Bull Terrier, serves as his trusty canine guide. However, as lovely as this story sounds, it doesn’t have a good ending, as of now.

The blind dog and his guide were abandoned by their owners and were found roaming into a sea tunnel together in Hartlepool, United Kingdom, ABC News reports. They were picked up by a rescue organization, Stray Aid, in Coxhoe, where they are currently staying.

Stray Aid volunteer Hannah Critchlow said Glenn and Buzz are in need of a home, but they will only be adopted if they can go together. “They are inseparable,” Critchlow, 21, said. “They instantly had a bond when they came in, so we kept them together. Whenever they’re separated they start crying and barking for each other.”

Hannah explains that Buzz looks out for Glenn, taking him on walks and generally looking out for him, taking him to his bed, and nudging him to the right food bowl. Naturally, since the story broke, calls have been pouring in to the organization with people wanting to adopt the pair.

“Some dogs are here months and months and not one person looks at them or has interest, so there’s an unusual amount of interest in them,” Critchlow said. “Everyone is in love with them, and they’re both just so friendly, lovable and very chill.”

“Buzz acts as Glenn’s eyes and it’s as simple as that. Glenn gets his confidence from Buzz, and if they were separated even for a few minutes, they both bark and become distressed, so they would need to have a loving home together,” said staff member Sue Bielby.

“Glenn doesn’t need him outside where he can run around, but he needs Buzz inside the kennels to stop him banging into things. He helps Glenn find his way to his bed by sort of pushing him towards the front of the kennel and guiding him in … Buzz also nudges him towards his food, they eat side by side, and he pushes him toward his bowl, or away from his [Buzz’s] if Glenn is going for the wrong bowl. We think they have been together for a long time but we don’t know for sure, they both seem to be a similar age. If they are apart for long, they start to cry and whine. Glenn also gets quite disorientated without Buzz. They are both lovely little dogs, they are good with people.”

Stray Aid posted a message on their Facebook page, thanking for the outpouring of support Glenn and Buzz have received. The inseparable pair have literally become famous.

“We quite literally have tears in our eyes at the kindness and generosity shown by lovely folks touched by Buzz & Glenn’s story.

If you have a couple of pounds to spare, you could make such a difference to the lives of all the dogs in our care.

Even just by sharing this post on your own timeline, you’re helping to save dogs and find them their forever homes.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!”

A GoFundMe site has also been set up to help Glenn and Buzz, and their other canine friends.

“Hi, everyone. I’ve been watching all of the media fury about these two fantastic fellas and thought I would set up a gofund me account for anyone who can’t use the Stray Aid Justgiving site to donate,” the site reads. “Please feel free to help these dogs out, it would be great to continue to help dogs like Buzz and Glenn for years to come.”

So far, the site has raised £720 of their £1,000 goal.
