Jada Pinkett Smith Says Breakup Rumors Are “Ridiculous”

Since last fall, speculation that Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith’s 14-year marriage may be coming to an end has made the rounds in gossip circles. Half a year later, that speculation is still going on–and Pinkett Smith doesn’t know why.

In an interview with French magazine Gala (via People), Jada aimed to put the speculation to rest once and for all, adamantly denying that the couple is getting a divorce. When asked how all of the gossip got started, she had this to say:

“I have no idea! Every year, one celebrity couple is under the microscope. This year, unluckily, it’s us! I almost want to say that we should have been expecting it. Will and I know the truth. We’re waiting peacefully for the storm to blow over.”

Some of the speculation pointed at how often Jada and Will spend time apart as evidence that the couple could be going through a rough patch, but Pinkett Smith notes that the time apart is nothing new.

“These rumors are completely untrue,” she said. “I travel a lot because of my work, just like Will does. … But our lifestyle hasn’t changed. Before we had the kids, we were already far away from each other quite often because of separate projects.”

Putting the final nail in the rumor coffin, Pinkett Smith shot down talk that the couple was no longer living under the same roof. “That’s ridiculous. We’ve always lived together,” she said.
