WWE News: Money In The Bank Winner Sheamus In Line For WWE Title Run?

At Money in the Bank two weeks ago, the WWE pulled off a major swerve. Instead of Roman Reigns, Dolph Ziggler, or Randy Orton winning the Money in the Bank briefcase, Sheamus, the WWE’s new mega-heel, took the briefcase and walked away with a chance at the WWE World Heavyweight championship. The WWE Universe was not impressed.

On social media after the match, the WWE fans tweeted their displeasure with Sheamus winning. Perhaps they expected Reigns winning the briefcase. Or, Sheamus is doing his job very well at being a heel. Not many people like him, but the WWE officials do.

In an earlier report by the Inquisitr, the reason Sheamus won the briefcase was due to WWE being high on his heel character. When the fans immediately boo him upon arrival, then he’s doing his job well. If he was Brodus Clay from years ago, then his heel persona wouldn’t be getting the reaction it is.

Every WWE fan knows that the Money in the Bank briefcase usually means a WWE World Heavyweight championship is in a wrestler’s immediate future. Will Sheamus be given the belt? According to WrestleZone.com and Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Sheamus is in line for a WWE championship run and his original plans have finally been revealed.

Originally Sheamus was to turn heel and face Bryan at WrestleMania last year, but when Punk left, and the fact the crowds were killing Batista, Bryan’s creative changed and Sheamus was left out. Then Sheamus was going to win the briefcase at Money in the Bank, but when Bryan got hurt and Money in the Bank became for the vacant title, it changed again.

The win means Sheamus is likely to take the title some time over the next year from whatever babyface beats Rollins for the title. Headlining with a new name in the mix is a good idea. But Sheamus, even with the change in look, is far from being a new name. I’m not sure that Sheamus is thought of by fans at the level of a guy who at this point should win the title or even headline a PPV in a singles match.

What Meltzer said makes perfect sense. Sheamus will become a new name in the main event hunt, but that isn’t being shown on WWE Raw at the moment. It’s looking like it will be a slow build towards the top for the Money in the Bank winner.

Looking at the main event scene, it’s Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose and Brock Lesnar. If Lesnar does beat Seth Rollins at WWE Battleground, that’s a face champion. Rollins is expected to face Triple H at SummerSlam. Where’s the heel challenger? WWE is about to change their main event picture.
