Fans can watch the India vs. Guam soccer match live online and see whether a FIFA newcomer can continue its strong start to the AFC tournament.
Guam’s national soccer team, that Matao, is competing in its first-ever FIFA World Cup Qualifying tournament and got started off with a 1-0 win over Turkmenistan.
Guam will now take on India in a match at 4:15 p.m. local time (6:15 a.m. GMT) from Guam National Football Stadium.
Guam’s players said they didn’t have much time to revel in the win over Turkmenistan before turning their attention to India in the FIFA qualifying match.
“Immediately after the game it was: turn around, get focused and look forward to the next one — which is India,” Matao captain Jason Cunliffe told the Pacific Daily News. “We take things one match at a time like India does, and we’re focused, we’re ready.”
Though Guam is a newcomer, the players are confident in their chances. India is ranked just 33 spots above Guam, who sit at No. 174 in the world.
“What’s done is done and we’re here to get three points … and I think it’ll be a good match,” Cunliffe said. “It will probably be fairly open because everyone needs the points. It’ll be a good game for the fans to come and see.”
Fans who watch the India vs. Guam match live online will also see an Indian squad looking to avenge an opening-round to Oman.
“We weren’t happy about losing. Oman is a very good side, they’ve been together for quite sometime, they’ve had a coach there for the last four years so they’re a settled side,” said Indian Manager Stephen Constantine. “And we had, I think, five players back for the first time, so considering those things, we did quite well.”
Constantine added that they will be playing a Guam team with a lot to prove and momentum at their back.
“Obviously, we are here to win and Guam are here to win, so it will be a winner-takes-all kind of thing,” said Constantine. “You want to win the home games, Guam won their first home game, I’m sure they’re going to try and win their second home game, but we need to get points so I think it will be an exciting game.”
