Prince Carl Philip and Sofia Hellqvist were married on Saturday at Stockholm’s Royal Palace.
According to BBC News , the couple became husband and wife (and Sofia became a princess) at the royal wedding , which took place five years after the couple first met. The Prince, 36, is third in line to the Swedish throne. His bride was once a topless model and even did some reality television before she agreed to settle down and take on a royal role.
“Thousands of well-wishers lined the streets for the event, despite polls suggesting the Swedish royal family’s popularity is waning.”
The wedding of Prince Carl Philip and Sofia Hellqvist may not have been as popular as that of Prince William and Kate Middleton, but it certainly was just as extravagant. In the first photos released of the couple tying the knot, many noticed that Sofia’s gown was very traditional, classic, and elegant — and most couldn’t help but notice how similar it looked to the one worn by Duchess Kate.

If you remember back to 2011, Kate Middleton wore a white dress with a v-neckline and lace sleeves. She also had a very long train, not unlike Princess Sofia’s dress.

Perhaps the only striking difference between Sofia and Kate is the way they chose to wear their hair and their tiaras. The Duchess wore her brunette locks long and slightly curled while Sofia chose a very elegant updo that included a large bun-like ball that sat underneath her veil. Kate’s veil was attached to her tiara and covered most of her head while Sofia’s was placed on the back of her head and cascaded down from there.
As for the guests at Prince Carl Philip and Sofia Hellqvist’s wedding, there were quite a few. According to the Daily Telegraph , there was an abundance of royal blood watching these two make history.
“Crown Prince Fredrik of Denmark with Australian-born wife Mary, and Crown Prince Haakon of Norway with his wife Mette-Marit. Belgium, Japan, the Netherlands and Greece are among other countries whose royal family will witness the wedding.”
Some wedding guests were invited to take part in a pre-wedding celebration on board the M/S Stockholm yacht on Friday night. As previously reported by the Inquisitr , the event was quite lavish.
