Six-Year-Old Meeting Queen Accidentally Hit In Face By Saluting Soldier

Poor Maisie Gregory.

You’d have thought that the immediate moments following meeting Queen Elizabeth II would have been the happiest of her short little life.

Unfortunately for the six-year-old, she was immediately brought crashing back down to earth by a saluting solider who accidentally smacked Maisie in the face just a few seconds after she’d met the Queen.

The incident unfolded at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales. Maisie Gregory had just presented a posy of flowers to the Queen when the accidental assault took place.

Thankfully for all involved, Maisie Gregory, who is the daughter of the Regimental Sergeant Major Martin Gregory, was unharmed in the incident. However, the soldier who accidentally knocked off her bonnet was beyond apologetic with what had happened.

The Queen didn’t appear to notice, and carried on walking to her car. Maisie’s mother, Joanne Gregory, later explained to Wales Online that her daughter was “overcome with tiredness,” rather than possessing a grave injury. That’s because the family had been up since 4:45 a.m. in order to attend the event.

Maisie will be able to console herself with the fact that Queen Elizabeth II told her that she looked “very pretty” in her traditional Welsh garments. At this point, Maisie curtseyed to the Monarch and proceeded to hand her a bunch of flowers.

It had been an all round proud day for the Gregorys, as Maisie’s father had previously led the Royal Welsh as they marched to the Millennium Stadium from Cardiff Castle, all while thousands of people watched on.
