Ted Cruz Apologizes After Mocking Joe Biden Following Beau Biden’s Death

Ted Cruz has apologized to Joe Biden for mocking him after the death of his son, Beau Biden. According to NBC News, Cruz was “forced” to apologize when he made a joke about Vice President Joe Biden that just happened to come out at the wrong time.

According to the report, Cruz, who is an early candidate for the Republican party, was speaking at an event in Michigan when he decided to make a joke at Joe Biden’s expense. This was just four days after Biden suffered the huge loss of his 46-year-old son.

During the event, Ted Cruz took a swing at Biden when he was already down. According to NBC News, the joke went like this: “Vice President Joe Biden. You know the nice thing? You don’t need a punchline. I promise you it works. The next party you’re at, just walk up to someone and say, ‘Vice President Joe Biden’ and just close your mouth. They will crack up laughing.”

Of course, after the speaking engagement, Ted Cruz was asked about his decision to make a joke at Joe Biden’s expense while he’s mourning his son, Beau Biden. Ted replied that the death of his son is, “heartbreaking and tragic” and that his prayers “are very much with Biden.” When asked why he had made the jab, Ted Cruz just shook his head and walked away.

Later on, Ted Cruz took to his Facebook page to apologize.

“It was a mistake to use an old joke about Joe Biden during his time of grief, and I sincerely apologize. The loss of his son is heartbreaking and tragic, and our prayers are very much with the Vice President and his family.”

Commenters took Cruz up to task following the apology. One Facebook user wrote, “It’s almost understandable that a rehearsed and well used joke slipped past your filters and made its way into the speech, though it shouldn’t have happened.”

“Turning and walking away when questioned about it after the speech without comment, however, showed extremely poor decision making and character.”

Another wrote, “The number 1 thing we need is a president that has good judgement, you’ve lost my support.”

Beau Biden died after a long battle with brain cancer. In a statement, Vice President Biden said as follows.

“The entire Biden family is saddened beyond words. We know that Beau’s spirit will live on in all of us — especially through his brave wife, Hallie, and two remarkable children, Natalie and Hunter.”
