Watch live online as world champion Australia visits West Indies for the first of two Test Matches — the first time the Australians have played as a team since winning the ICC Cricket World Cup back in March, and their first Test since January. But the Australia Test team features a few different faces from the one-day side that won the Cup.
To find out how to watch Day One of the Australia vs. West Indies First Test live online from Windsor Park in Roseau, Dominica, see the information at the bottom of this story. First ball is scheduled for 10 a.m. Atlantic Standard Time — which is the same as United States Eastern Daylight Time. In the U.S. Pacific Time Zone, the match starts at 7 a.m.
At stake in the series is the Frank Worrell Trophy, other than the Ashes, perhaps the most coveted bilateral prize in international cricket. But Australia has held the trophy — displayed above by captains Michael Clarke (left) of Australia, and Dinesh Ramdin of West Indies — for 23 years. That's how long it's been since West Indies have won a Test series over Australia. In fact, Australia has won every Test Match for the last 12 years.
The largely inexperienced West Indies side comes in as a heavy underdog and also shaking off a controversy after Windies selectors dumped 20-year veteran and crowd favorite Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who at 40-years-old stood poised to become the West Indies' all-time leading Test run-scorer, needing just 87 for the milestone.
West Indies also continue to miss a cadre of stars who played in the Indian Premier League, but who have taken other commitments rather than return to their home side after the IPL concluded. Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard, and Andre Russell remain among the missing.
But despite their apparent deficiencies, West Indies proved a thorn in England's side for their three-test series in April, forcing a draw in the First Test and winning the Third by five wickets in Barbados.
The world champion Aussies faced a rough entry into the Caribbean when their single-engine plane nearly skidded off the runway as the team landed in Dominica. But everything turned out okay, and Australia sees most of its top IPL players in the squad for the Test series.
Intimidating fast bowlers Mitchell Starc and Mitchell Johnson are on hand, along with opening batsman David Warner as well as Steve Smith, who will be filling the No. 3 slot for the first time. But Australia is not taking the Caribbean tour lightly.
"I rate their bowling attack," said Johnson on Tuesday. "We'll be playing the aggressive brand of cricket we're known for, but will be expecting a real fight."
