Samoa Joe Heel Turn: How Kevin Owens Vs. John Cena Should Go Down

A Samoa Joe heel turn is what I’m hoping for at Sunday’s Elimination Chamber special, and I’m about to tell you why.

Samoa Joe is the presumed next opponent for Kevin Owens on the NXT brand, and many people — such as the crew at Cageside Seats — see his involvement in Sunday’s match between the NXT champ and John Cena as a given.

To make Owens look strong while not going over Cena, the story goes, Joe will get involved in some way, thus escalating the NXT feud and helping John save face.

While I’ll be the first to admit that it’s the most likely scenario for Elimination Chamber, it’s not the best.

Why bring in two indie rock stars and have them scuffle in the minor leagues when you could pull a move here that builds NXT, makes WWE programming appointment viewing, and sets up a feud that could go clear into Survivor Series while giving your top babyface some much-needed time off?

With a Samoa Joe heel turn, you could accomplish all of that. And it’s not like Kevin Owens’ actions leading up to Sunday’s special haven’t primed the pump for it.

Think about how diabolical this guy has been. He’s intentionally injured fan favorite Sami Zayn twice. He’s toyed with the audience’s emotions on NXT programming as well as Raw. This past week, he even came out to Sami Zayn’s music and proceeded to trash the guy in a brilliant promo. Twitter hasn’t even been safe! Take these awesome combo-tweets from when Zayn debuted on Raw and was congratulated by his fans and peers. Not Owens.

Having Owens bring in Samoa Joe as an ally and fooling fans into thinking they’re about to feud is the perfect ruse. And what better way to make that ruse known than to double-team and lay waste to John Cena, the biggest star in the company?

By having Samoa Joe come out at the end of the Owens-Cena matchup and pulling the rug out from under us, you could give Cena a beating that puts him out of action for a month or two.

When he comes back, he would have a ready-made feud with Owens. In the meantime, Owens and Samoa Joe could use this pop to inflict more havoc on the stars of NXT, thus opening the door to create some hugely over babyfaces for that promotion, which desperately needs some in the wake of Zayn’s injury.

Joe and Owens could also create a hellacious faction with guys like Baron Corbin and Tyler Breeze to battle Team Cena at Survivor Series.

The story possibilities that would come from a Samoa Joe heel turn would be unexpected and almost endless. But what do you think, readers? Better than what’s probably going to happen, or worse? Share your thoughts on how you think Cena-Owens should go down.
