12 Dead in Binghamton, New York shooting


At least 12 people are dead after a gunman opened fire inside an immigration center in Binghamton, New York.

The gunman blocked the rear entrance of the building with his car, before entering through the front door and immediately starting to fire. The victims include immigrants who were studying to become US citizens, and staff at the center.
At least three people were rushed to hospital with varying injuries.

Police had feared far worse, and at one stage believed that a hostage situation was taking place with over 40 people at risk. The gunman however is believed to have killed himself either before police arrived, or shortly thereafter.

The gunman has not been formally identified, but carried identification that indicated his name was Jiverly Voong of Johnston City, New York.
