Shelby To Unveil New 950-Horsepower, Street-Legal Mustang Next Week

The Shelby American Mustang shown in the picture above may not look all that special on the outside, but the power behind the vehicle makes it the company’s most powerful vehicle yet–more powerful than a GT500 Super Snake, even.

Shelby American revealed that it plans to show off its latest model, the Shelby 1000, at the New York International Auto Show next week. As the name may lead you to believe, Shelby’s new Mustang is able to get upwards of 1,100 horsepower out of the track version, while the street legal version is rated for 950 horsepower.

“Carroll Shelby is a visionary who has pushed the boundaries of performance his entire life,” said John Luft, president of Shelby American in a press release. “He challenged the Shelby American team to develop the Shelby 1000 and wanted to unveil this amazing new Shelby at the New York Auto Show celebrating 50 years since he unveiled the very first Shelby Cobra that changed the face of high performance.”

Shelby’s GT500 Super Snake previously held the crown for the most powerful Mustang kit that Shelby produces, but the new Shelby 1000 has the Super Snake beat by quite a bit. But, as you’d no doubt expect for that much power, the Shelby 1000 conversion isn’t going to come cheap.

Luft says that the Shelby 1000 is aimed for anyone with the “need for speed”, but you’ll also be needing a whole lot of cash to feed that need. The conversion for the street legal version will set you back $149,995, and you’ll need to bring your own 2012 Shelby GT500, which is currently going for around $49,000.

So, if any of you wanna buy me one of these, I’d totally be cool with that.
