Hilarious ‘ILikeRomneyCare’ Prank Redirects to ‘ILikeObamacare’

A little while ago, hacking-savvy pranksters got a hold of both socialists.com and communists.com, redirecting both to President Obama’s campaign website. Well, two can play at that game. To wit, someone else decided to hijack ILikeRomneyCare.com and send curious-clickers-all to the exact same place.

Anyone on their way to ILikeRomneyCare.com will find themselves redirected to the President Obama campaign page – a specific page, with the words “I LIKE OBAMACARE” hitting your eyes like a ton of irony-laced bricks. To sweeten the deal, the page also gives people the option to “like” Obamacare on Facebook and donate money to the president’s campaign.

“It’s the two-year anniversary of the Affordable Care Act. Since then, the law that almost everyone calls Obamacare has been doing exactly what the other side has hoped it wouldn’t do: It’s been working,” reads the Obama campaign page. “Say you like Obamacare–and you want everyone to know.”

Those on the right have long-used the term “Obamacare” as a back-hand to the president’s historical healthcare law. Obama’s campaign took the term back from Republicans last week to shake off its pejorative association. Meanwhile, Romney has been catching heat for his own criticism of Obama’s healthcare policies despite signing a statewide clone of it into law up in Massachusetts during his tenure as governor. This healthcare program is aptly dubbed “RomneyCare” by his critics.

The group Viral Majority is taking credit for the website-redirect-brouhaha, but is staying anonymous, as most internet pranksters are wont to do. The new group has one goal according to Twitter: “We have a progressive political agenda.” Thanks for clarity. Good thing The Huffington Post got an inside scoop.

A Viral Majority insider told HuffPo that, “Americans are just beginning to see the clear benefits of ObamaCare, from lower costs for seniors to no denial of coverage to those with pre-existing conditions. This is something Massachusetts residents know and love thanks to Mitt Romney, the Godfather of ObamaCare.”

Either way, we at IQ find internet shenanigans hilarious. Well done, anon!
