Chelsea’s Jose Mourinho Named Barclays Premier League Manager Of The Year

Chelsea’s Jose Mourinho has another trophy to add to his already stacked trophy cabinet. Jose Mourinho has been named the Barclays Premier League Manager of the Year. Chelsea’s Eden Hazard has also won the Barclays Premier League Player of the Year.

Ironically, the Portuguese did not win the Manager of the Month award during the campaign that saw him win his third Premier League title at Chelsea. Jose Mourinho was chosen ahead of fellow managers such as Nigel Pearson, Arsene Wenger, Garry Monk, and Ronald Koeman.

The 52-year-old previously won the award in his first two years at Chelsea. Jose Mourinho has never failed to win the league two years into his tenure at a club.

Throughout his second reign at Chelsea, Jose Mourinho labelled himself as The Happy One as opposed to his earlier self-titled name The Special One. However, the Portuguese found it hard to shy away from the media spotlight for his behavior throughout the season.

Here are some of his best quotes.

After a game best remembered for Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger shoving Chelsea’s Jose Mourinho, the Portuguese delivered the humor he is widely known for.

“No, I’m not surprise (Wenger was not charged), not surprised. Charged? For me [it would have been] a stadium ban.”

Jose Mourinho turned his attention to referee Phil Dowd after Chelsea suffered a shock 5-3 defeat away to Tottenham Hotspurs.

“There is an action on Eden Hazard; Hazard honest as always tells me in his opinion it was not a foul or a red card, so that’s good, in spite of Mr Dowd is too slow to go with that ball, he was like 40 yards away, he made the right decision.”

Perhaps his most notable attack this season, Jose Mourinho appeared on British Sunday morning television to criticize the performance of the referee yet again. The Portuguese manager complained about the strong tackle that could have potentially ended the career of one his players (Nemanja Matic). However, it was Matic who was sent off the field for his reaction to the tackle in a game that finished 1-1.

“I can only remember one decision all season which went in our favour. Now I am risking my dugout in the final because I am having this conversation. I speak about these incidents week after week, because they happen week after week. My players are not getting the respect they deserve and it is too much.”

Is Chelsea’s Jose Mourinho the best manager in the world?
