Report: Teamates Not Happy With Tim Tebow

Tim Tebow’s introductory news conference Monday has got some of the New York Jets squad seeing red. The Jets can’t believe that a backup quarterback is having a news conference is “something they can’t wrap their heads around, and they know it’s just the beginning,” according to the New York Post, which cited several unidentified Jets players.

When the Jets signed Drew Stanton on March 16 the signing barely raised anyone’s pulse around New York. Stanton was traded Friday to the Indianapolis Colts after the Tebow trade would see him with zero playing time.

Mark Sanchez, who has faced his share of anonymous grumbling from his teammates, is handling Tebow’s addition well, according to the Post. The Jets have said Sanchez will be the starter next season.

Former Jets lineman Damien Woody was quoted as saying by the Post,

“How many times has a backup quarterback had a press conference? How many times have there been helicopters to meet a backup quarterback at the airport? The organization is saying he’s the backup quarterback. Well, then why do you feel like you have to have a press conference? Why not just do a conference call and call it a day? It’s a marketing ploy.”

Woody’s concerns about Tebow’s media attention were shared by many current Jets players according to the New York Post. Woody went on to say,

“It could be very disruptive. It’s not Tebow’s fault. I just think that after everything that happened last year you would think they would just go about things in a quiet, businesslike manner. Then, to do something like this … to me, it just reeks of them trying to get headlines.”
