Just days after Dakota Meyer’s “secret wife” was revealed by the media, the mother of the bride to be Sarah Palin took to Facebook to announce her daughter Bristol’s cancelled wedding with the ex-marine.

Sarah posted a message on Monday.

“Bristol and Dakota couldn’t be more thankful for the love and support of family and friends over the past months while preparing for their wedding. They have informed loved ones that unfortunately the announced celebration planned for May 23 will not be held.”

She did not give out any explanation as to why the nuptials were cancelled. She didn’t confirm either if the wedding was just postponed or the engagement was called off. Instead, she related that the Palins and Mayers will still be gathering at “the old Kentucky home” on May 23 for a barbeque party. According to Sarah, the event is aimed to “celebrate life, in general.”

Sarah also included a message from Bristol on her Facebook account which addressed the controversy regarding Dakota’s previous marriage.

“…Dakota and I discussed our past relationships prior to our engagement. Dakota was legally divorced years ago, as any good reporter could and should have disclosed to readers.”

Sarah’s Facebook post was then accompanied by a motivational photo that read, “Trust in God’s timing. It’s better to wait a while and have things fall into place than to rush and have things fall apart.” Bristol also uploaded the same snap on her Instagram account earlier on Saturday.

Reports of Dakota’s “secret wife” emerged when the “secret wife’s” best friend posted a comment on the husband-to-be’s Facebook profile. Attacking the former Marine , the best friend insisted for him to tell the truth because his ex-wife “doesn’t deserve to be a part of his mess.”

The best friend pointed out that there’s nothing to be ashamed of. She said that the two got married and eventually realized that they made a mistake. After breaking up, Dakota and Cassandra remained civil, which is why the best friend is surprised that the ex-marine kept his previous relationship from his current fiancée.

Apparently, based on public records from Kentucky, the Medal of Honor recipient was married to Cassandra Wain in Campbellsville, Kentucky in May 2008. However, according to Dakota’s lawyer, the two opted for a divorce on March 3, 2010.

A couple of days before she made the announcement on Facebook, Sarah spoke at a charity event about her daughter’s relationship. She said that Bristol knows that everything needs to be worked out first before making a life-long commitment.
