College Advisor Accuses Student Of Harassment For Waiting For Advice [Video]

A Kennesaw State University advisor was caught on camera last week accusing a college student of harassment merely for sitting in the waiting room trying to get advice.

Kevin Bruce had trouble meeting with a campus advisor to schedule his classes for next semester despite making several attempts, so he decided to wait in the counseling office until one was free.

That’s when another student advisor approached Bruce and accused him of harassing them.

The woman isn’t identified in the video, but Bruce names her Abby Dawson on his Twitter account.

“Sitting here until someone is available is harassing them. Would you like for me to call campus security?”

The video went viral and Bruce’s hashtag #ItsBiggerThanKSU has been retweeted thousands of times and has trended nationally, according to USA Today College Edition.

AngryTweets

Bruce had attempted to communicate with Dawson via email since August of 2014 but hadn’t received a response, so he went in to speak to a different advisor, and that’s when Dawson threw him out.

He then posted the video and his email exchange with the advisor on Twitter and received an almost instant reaction from the college crowd.

Kennesaw University has promised to investigate the matter, but in the meantime, the world of social media has been abuzz with speculation on the video.

Parents and students alike have condemned the student advisor, the university, and the entire education system for not supporting them.

In an age when young college students are forced to borrow thousands of dollars to finance an education, many people are shocked at the treatment this young man has received.

The average college student will graduate with some $26,000 in debt as part of the $1.2 trillion business of student loans, according to the Inquisitr.

MadTweets

Bruce has made it clear, via Twitter, he doesn’t think this is a race issue, despite media reports to the contrary.

Instead, he calls it an issue many college students must face on his Twitter account.

“Guys It’s not a racial issue. Every Race has the problem.”

He may not be the only Kennesaw University student with advising problems. Only 15 percent of the school’s students graduate in four years, according to the U.S. News and World Report. Tuition and fees at the college average just under $7,000.

Since Bruce’s video went viral, other students at Kennesaw have started to come forward, including Taylor Hawks, who says he’s had similar problems.

The university says it has started a formal complaint process.
