South Carolina Deputy Shot In Face By Masked Man, Lt. Will Rogers Condition Unknown


South Carolina sheriff’s deputy was shot by a masked man multiple times on Thursday evening. Berkeley County Sheriff’s Deputy Will Rogers underwent surgery to help repair the damage caused by the gunshot wounds. His condition is currently unknown.

The search for the masked man who shot South Carolina Sheriff’s Deputy Lieutenant Will Rogers is ongoing. The condition of Deputy Lt. Will Rogers of the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office has not been announced, and the search for the suspect is ongoing.

Sheriff’s deputy Rogers pulled into an Exxon station along Highway 52 in Moncks Corner about 10:30 p.m. on Thursday night. The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Deputy was talking with another customer in the parking lot when an armed and masked man reportedly came around the corner of the building and shot him “several” times from behind.

The man who South Carolina Sheriff’s Deputy Lt. Will Rogers was also reportedly carrying a red silk sack. The police shooting suspect stole the sheriff’s deputy’s black SUV and sped away from the scene. Law enforcement officers found Rogers’ black SUV parked near a boat landing around midnight.

Lt. Rogers was airlifted to MUSC hospital and had surgery during the early morning hours on Friday. South Carolina police officials have not yet announced how many times the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Deputy shot or where he was shot. MUSC hospital officials told the media that the South Carolina sheriff’s deputy is currently in the ICU ward.

The masked man who shot the deputy is considered armed and dangerous and remains on the loose. The public has very little information about who they should be on the lookout for in as they go about their day. Berkeley County police officials have described the man who shot Lt. Rogers as being between 5’10” to 6’4″ tall, approximately 225 pounds, wearing a mask, white long sleeved shirt, and grey sweat pants with a white stripe. Berkeley County law enforcement officials are also advising area residents to stay inside as they search for armed police shooter.

Berkeley County Sheriff Butch Henerey held a brief press conference early Friday morning to announce that both SLED and Moncks Corner Police are still searching for the masked man who shot the South Carolina sheriff’s deputy. Lt. Will Rogers is a night shift supervisor.

Lt. Will Rogers has reportedly been a member of law enforcement for more than 25 years. The South Carolina sheriff’s deputy was one of 15 candidates in a recent runoff election for sheriff.
