‘Empire’ Star Kaitlin Doubleday Engaged To DJ Boyfriend: Actress Surprised After Season 2 Fox Reveal

Kaitlin Doubleday is engaged. The actress stars on the hit series Empire on Fox, and she had something very special waiting for her when she returned home after jetting off to New York City for the Fox upfronts. Her boyfriend took the time to prepare a proposal for her return, according to Us Magazine.

Doubleday received the proposal from her boyfriend, Devin Lucien, who works as a DJ in Paris. A source close to the couple revealed that Devin “got everything in order” for the proposal while she was in New York City. After he popped the big question, Kaitlin said yes.

Both Kaitlin and Devin shared photos declaring their big news on Instagram on Tuesday. In one of the photos, Kaitlin showed just how surprised she was by Devin’s proposal. She captioned her photo share with “Cheers!!!!!!!! To the most memorable night of my life thus far @devinlucien.” Devin just declared, “She said yes!” on his Instagram. Her diamond engagement ring is clearly seen in the photos.

Doubleday is just one of the stars of Empire, and fans will see more of her character, Rhonda Lyon, during Empire Season 2. She is the wife of Lucious Lyon’s eldest son on the series. During Fox’s upfront presentation on Monday, the network shared many details for the second season of the series.

Empire was a big hit after it premiered on Fox earlier this year. The network did not wait long after its premiere to pick up the series for a second season. However, it was not known how the network would handle Empire for the 2015-2016 season.

Now, fans have a better idea of what to expect.

According to Latin Post, Fox plans to divide Empire into two halves next season. The first half of Season 2 will air in the fall, and the second half will air next spring. The season will consist of 18 total episodes.

According to Billboard, Lee Daniels, the man behind the series, was not looking to expand the series to more than 12 episodes when he spoke about the series in March. However, it looks like Fox was pushing for a larger episode order. This series was a huge hit for the network. It averaged 17 million viewers during Season 1.

As for the series itself, there will be some big name guest stars appearing during Empire Season 2. Chris Rock, Lenny Kravitz, and Alicia Keys have all been mentioned.

As for the music on the series, Ne-Yo has been added to create music for the series. Empire is known for having original music on the program. During Season 1, Timbaland was the man behind the show’s music. Fans will be able to see the cast perform their music on stage during the summer.

Ilene Chaiken is the co-showrunner on the series, and she spoke with Deadline about Empire. She offered a small teaser for Season 2 during the interview.

“More of the same, because it is the show, these are the characters. Of course there will be new characters and some really interesting people who want to come and be on the show now that might have been harder to get before the whole world knew what we were doing. But ultimately, we’re going to be true to our core characters.”

As for Doubleday, she spoke out about the series and its popularity on Fox in a recent interview with Inside Pulse. She attributed the success of the series to many things.

“I think it’s because of the gay son and the… I think what makes Jamal’s character so relatable is the fact Lucious doesn’t accept him. So I think if everyone accepted him, it probably wouldn’t be as fun to watch, which is crazy but it’s true you know? Like you want to see ‘oh wow other people go through these struggles too and even if you’re rich and have everything in the world like maybe your dad still won’t accept you and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.’ So, I think that there is that going for it. I think that it’s really enthralling to watch Trai Byers do an such amazing work with this disease of manic depression (or bipolar disorder). And I think that has also struck a cord. Some people wrote to me on Twitter last week like ‘oh, I was also in a relationship like that and seeing you cry and deal with that really reminded me of this and that,’ and I think that also strikes a chord.”

Doubleday also credited the music, Terrence Howard as the lead of the show, and top performances by other members of the cast in the interview.

What is next for Doubleday? In addition to her role on Empire, she has been cast in a new John Asher film, according to Variety. Po will star Christopher Gorham, seen last season on Covert Affairs on USA. Gorham will portray “a recently widowed man who must learn to cope with becoming a single father to his 9-year-old autistic son.”
