‘The Muppets’ Are Coming To ABC In A New TV Show!

The Muppets

It’s time to light the lights! The Muppets are heading to ABC in an all new television show! For the Fall of 2015, The Muppets will head to ABC on Tuesday nights, debuting in a family friendly 8 pm time slot.

This isn’t the first time The Muppets have hit the small screen. Back in 1976, Jim Henson introduced the Muppets with The Muppet Show on CBS. Following that, a cartoon spin-off show was created called Muppet Babies (1984), Jim Henson’s Little Muppet Monsters (1985), The Jim Henson Hour (1989) and Muppets Tonight (1996).

In between the shows and specials, the Muppets made their way to the big screen in several films, and then, they disappeared. That was until Jason Segel reignited the Muppets culture in the successful film The Muppets, which introduced Henson’s friends to a whole new generation. Following that film, Muppets Most Wanted made it to the big screen as well. With all the Muppet success, a new TV show was inevitable.

Back in April, the Inquisitr reported on the possibility of a revival of the Muppet variety show. Back then, it was said that most of the regular Muppets would come back for the variety show, and celebrity cameos will happen. The show is said to have a “meta-feel” and will be focused on the Muppets pitching a Muppet show to ABC, which falls in line with the return of the meta-feeling The Muppets had.

Of course, the show will also feature the funny push and pull of Kermit’s relationship with Miss Piggy. Due to their bitter relationship, the fictitious Muppets may not even make it on to ABC. Sounds pretty meta, indeed.

ABC’s Entertainment Group president said of the lineup, “Our new slate of shows continues the momentum from last year. ABC was the most buzzed about network, and the only major network to hold on to its audience and to grow in the target demo. Our 2015-16 schedule, with new shows and returning favorites that reflect our commitment to world-class storytelling, will solidify ABC’s place as the network that raises the bar for what viewers expect from broadcast television.”
