First it was Big Sean reaching out to his ex, Naya Rivera. Now, post-breakup, it looks like it’s Ariana Grande’s turn to do the same, this time with Wanted member Nathan Sykes.
In an interview with Wonderwall, the 22-year old Sykes admits he’s still in close contact with Ariana. He then went on to describe why things didn’t work out, echoing what Big Sean and Grande told the public was the reason they called it quits as well.
“It’s like, when some things don’t work out they don’t work out. Long distances and stuff like that. On different schedules and touring in different parts of the world. It’s like sometimes it doesn’t happen so easily.”
Sykes also added that he is currently “painfully single,” indicating that while he and Ari may still be close, the “My Forever” singer hasn’t rekindled any their romantic relationship for now.
As reported by Inquisitr, it was Big Sean who recently reached out to his ex, Naya Rivera, in hopes of making amends following his split with Grande. Big Sean famously dissed Rivera in his track “Research,” which called out Naya’s attempts to hang with fellow rappers Drake and Chris Brown. Rivera, meanwhile, did not reciprocate his attempts, as she is currently pregnant with her first child with husband Ryan Dorsey.
According to Hollywood Life, Big Sean is feeling significant regret over both how he’s treated Naya and the fact that he and Ariana’s relationship failed.
“Sean is taking it hard,” their insider source said. “He feels like he failed with another high profile relationship. He has been emotional about it. It sucks because he was in love with her, but to him, her bulls*** got in the way of their good times, so he’s really taken things hard.”
The site also added that Big Sean thought Grande would fight to keep their relationship together and was shocked when she didn’t.
“Sean was expecting Ariana to put up a huge fuss and beg him to stay, but she did the opposite. He most likely would have stayed with her if she made an effort.”
For now, it looks like both Big Sean and Ariana Grande are still navigating single life post-breakup. But at least both artists have their successful careers to occupy their time. Big Sean’s new album, Dark Sky Paradise, earned him his first No. 1 on the Billboard 200 while Ariana Grande’s Honeymoon Tour is currently tops across the country.
