After a 13-year-old teen fights off a rapist on video, the brave girl went to hide in a closet and texted her father, “Daddy, come home now. Some guy tried to rape me!” Fortunately, the attacker fled and the video and photos of the rapist went viral on social media, allowing the San Jose police to track down 31-year-old Mohammad Khaliqi and arrest him. But while social media helped track the rapist, Khaliqi’s alleged actions have led to a lot of anti-Muslim comments.
In a related report by the Inquisitr, a cannibal killer, who was accused of stabbing his girlfriend and eating her organs, was furious when a judge added rape charges since he is supposedly “too handsome to be a rapist.”
According to The Independent, San Jose police Sergeant Enrique Garcia shared how the teen fights off the rapist.
“The guy starts a conversation with her and when she opens up the door, the suspect pushes her in, tries to sexually assault her. The little girl is brave, she fights back, and the guy leaves on foot. He’s not concerned about being caught, since he’s doing this in broad daylight.”
The teen girl added her own explanation, saying that Khaliqi had started an inappropriate chat with her only to try and force his way into the family home.
“I tried to slam the door on him but I couldn’t, so he got inside. He walked a few steps towards me and I thought he was going to grab me again… but he just turns around, looks out the door, and just walks away.”
Thanks to the family’s home surveillance system showing how the teen fights off the rapist, police investigators were able to get a clear picture of the attack. After the video was posted online, the San Jose Police Department received hundreds of tips and these clues led to Mohammad Khaliqi’s arrest.
“All the credit belongs to the citizens who called in with those tips,” San Jose Deputy Chief Shawny Williams said. “Without their help it would’ve been difficult to arrest the suspect within 48 hours.”
It was reported that Mohammad Khaliqi was found while trying to hide at his mother’s house. His appearance had been drastically changed since the day of the rape attempt.
Reports say that the video has caused some to express anti-Muslim sentiment in their comments on the basis of the rapist’s name. Over on Twitter, this trend has continued.
