Did Castro Know JFK Would Be Assasinated? Book Says He Knew Exact Date

To me, JFK conspiracy enthusiasts! There are a couple new factoids hitting bookshelves soon that are sure to tickle your inner tinfoil-hat-wearer. So what’s the news? Nothing big. Just that Fidel Castro, arguably one of JFK’s greatest nemeses, apparently knew the exact date that Kennedy would be assassinated.

In a new book by former CIA analyst Brian Latell, Cuban sources and declassified US documents present a case arguing that the Cuban leader was at the very least aware of the intentions of Kennedy assassin Lee Harvey Oswald. Castro allegedly knew the exact date that President Kennedy would be assassinated, instructing his spies to listen carefully to radio reports coming out of Texas on November 23, 1963.

According to Latell’s book, Castro’s Secrets—the CIA and Cuba’s Intelligence Machine, Castro knew quite a lot about Oswald: for one, that Oswald had been denied a visa by Mexico City’s Cuban embassy, and that he swore to assassinate Kennedy just to prove that he was a true Communist.

“Fidel knew of Oswald’s intentions — and did nothing to deter the act,” says Latell in his book.

Despite the ring of conspiracy, Latell stresses that his book presents sober, if not reserved writing.

“Everything I write is backed up by documents and on-the-record sources,” he told The Miami Herald. “There’s virtually no speculation. I don’t say Fidel Castro ordered the assassination, I don’t say Oswald was under his control. He might have been, but I don’t argue that, because I was unable to find any evidence for that.”
