Philadelphia Eagles Rumors: Chip Kelly Reportedly Moving To Tennessee Titans To Follow Marcus Mariota

The Philadelphia Eagles are rumored to be headed for a big change, with reports that coach Chip Kelly could be ready to leave the team and follow Marcus Mariota to the Tennessee Titans.

Sources around the league reportedly believe that Kelly is ready to move on from the Eagles, and could be setting up a reunion with his former Oregon Ducks quarterback.

Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk reported:

“This information comes at a time when the Eagles are in full-blown backpedal mode, for a couple of obvious reasons. First, they need to find a way to mend fences with Bradford, who undoubtedly realizes that he was nearly re-traded. Second, the next distraction for Kelly and the Eagles (and the Titans) will be the inevitable speculation — which already has begun in some league circles — that Kelly is destined to eventually become the coach of the Titans.”

The Philadelphia Eagles rumors come after reports that the team was trying hard to trade up for Mariota in last week’s NFL Draft. With the Titans reportedly looking for a trade partner, the Eagles upped their offers in the days leading up to the draft.

Yahoo! Sports shared details on the reported trade offer for the second overall pick, which included:

  • Two first-round picks
  • One third-round pick
  • Cornerback Brandon Boykin
  • Defensive end Fletcher Cox
  • Linebacker Mychal Kendricks
  • Quarterback Sam Bradford

The rumors that Chip Kelly could be leaving the Philadelphia Eagles come amid similar reports out of Tennessee that coach Ken Whisenhunt is on the way out.

Rant Sports noted that there could be some truth to the rumors:

“If things do not work out between Mariota and Tennessee Titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt, a reunion with Kelly could be possible.”

“It’s not as farfetched as one might think. The oft-injured Sam Bradford could gets another ACL and retire from football, and Sanchez could prove to be the mediocre quarterback he has always been. Kelly would then jump at the first Power 5 job offer that comes his way, and a couple of years down the line, Whisenhunt might gets fired by the Titans because his offensive philosophy and Mariota’s do not mesh.”

If the rumors are true, it would be a huge blow to the Philadelphia Eagles. Chip Kelly had completely overhauled the team, trading LeSean McCoy and quarterback Nick Foles while bringing on Sam Bradford and Tim Tebow. The moves to tailor the team to his liking would make it very difficult for a new coach to step in.
