According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer , there hasn’t been a Mega Millions jackpot winner since March 24, when one winning ticket worth $58 million was sold in New York City. The ticket was purchased by 16 coworkers at a Manhattan biopharmaceutical company — each of the lucky winners took home approximately $1.65 million before taxes.
Mega Millions jackpot winners can choose a lump sum or annuity payment when they present their winning ticket at their local lottery headquarters. If there is a winner tonight, the lump sum payout for the $110 million jackpot would be approximately $69 million before taxes.
Winners who prefer to get their payout over time can choose a 30-year annuity. According to the official Mega Millions website , the first payment is made immediately, followed by 29 annual payments that are “five percent bigger than the previous one.”
The reason for the yearly increase? Think of it as a cost of living raise, with lottery officials deciding that the five percent increase would help “protect winners’ lifestyle and purchasing power.”

Even if you don’t win the Mega Millions jackpot tonight, there are other prizes that range from $1 (match just the Mega Ball) to $1 million (match all five numbers, no Mega Ball).
