Ashton Kutcher Remodels Childhood Home In Honor Of Mother’s Day

Although Ashton Kutcher spends most of his times these days in Los Angeles, he recently showed that he hasn’t forgotten his Iowa roots after remodeling his childhood home for his mom. He teamed up with online design company Houzz to give what he hopes is his best gift to his mother.

E! Online reports that Kutcher, 37, indicates that it was a “lifelong dream” of his mother Diane to renovate the home he grew up in, in Homestead, Iowa. This isn’t any ordinary childhood home, though. In fact, Kutcher says that he was only 13 when he helped his stepfather Mark build the home from scratch. This created a bond with his stepfather, says Kutcher, that can’t be replaced.

“The one thing that has eternally bonded my stepdad and I is that my stepdad loves my mom as much as I do. When you’re the oldest son, and your parents have gone through a divorce. You’re always mistrustful of any other guy, but Mark stepped in and a lot of ways was there for me in ways my dad couldn’t be there for me. I’m one of those people in this world who’s lucky enough to have two dads. I’m just a blessed person to have that much love in my life.”

As the family grew, they also outgrew the home, including Kutcher, a recent father. Yet, Diane never had the chance to finish the basement, which Ashton Kutcher indicates was one of her dreams for years. He thanks his mother for everything he has and states that the main mission behind the renovation is to show her his undying gratitude, which included finally finishing the basement up, along with numerous other renovations.

“It’s my way of saying thank you to my mom. My mom has been the greatest influence in my life—my parents gave me everything. They went to great sacrifices to give me the life that I have and anything I can do to say thank you is the right thing.”

The home renovation project is a four-part series featured on Houzz TV’s show, My Houzz, which depicts an excited Ashton Kutcher with his mother in tears as she walks through every room. In typical Kutcher fashion, he playfully teased his mom as she walked through the house.

“You don’t have to cry in every room.”

Meanwhile, Kutcher has also been busy with his career. The actor recently signed on to star in the new James Franco indie movie, The Long Home. The star-studded cast will also feature Franco, Josh Harnett, Robin Lord Taylor, Zoe Levin, Scott Haze, and Analeigh Tipton. This marks the first film that Franco and Ashton Kutcher have teamed up for.
