‘GTA V’: Seven PC Troubleshooting Tips From Rockstar Games

As an increasing number of players continue to pick up the newly released PC edition of Grand Theft Auto V, Rockstar Games is trying to make sure users can easily access the recent PC port of their open-world crime title. Since gamers will have a variety of different PC configurations, there are many issues that PC players may experience that weren’t seen on the more uniform console versions of GTA V.

Hoping to give fans access to a quick reference guide that provides easy tips for solving issues that gamers may encounter on the PC edition of Grand Theft Auto V, the official Rockstar Support website listed these top seven troubleshooting tips for the game late last week. Rockstar Games hopes that the PC help article will give users some quick assistance before having to contact official support.

“1.) First and foremost, be sure to launch the game while connected to the Internet so that you get the latest patch. It will be automatically applied if you don’t have it. Patches address many issues reported by players.”

The patch notes for every single GTA V title update can be found on the developer’s support site and gives gamers a full rundown of what each free download fixes within the game. The list also lets players know when there is a new Grand Theft Auto V update available on any platform.

“2.) Be sure your graphics card drivers are up to date.”

In order to play GTA V, PC gamers should have the most recent drivers for their graphics card. The game requires NVIDIA users to have driver 350.12 or later while AMD owners need version 15.4 Beta or better. Rockstar Games has provided further details for those wanting to update their graphics card drivers for GTA V.

“3.) Next, check to see that you have the latest version of Social Club installed, and that there are no corrupt or missing files for that installation.”

The Rockstar Social Club is needed to play the new online mode that accompanies Grand Theft Auto V since the game runs through the developer’s own servers. This is what allows Rockstar Games to be able to transfer character data between platforms. Since everything in GTA Online communicates through the Social Club, players should ensure that their Social Club account is set up correctly.

“4.) If your Social Club launcher is starting, but the game will not launch, try verifying your installation. This will let the Social Club launcher (or Steam, for Steam versions) verify all game files and re-download any that are corrupt or missing.”

Those who picked up GTA V through Steam can easily do this by browsing to the game in the “Library” tab of the Steam Interface. They can then select “Properties” by right clicking on Grand Theft Auto V. There should now be an option to access a “Local Files” tab which will have the option to “Verify integrity of game cache.”

“5.) If you are seeing any errors with ‘C++’, ‘D3D’, or ‘DirectX’, there may be an issue with your DirectX or C++ installation.”

Once again, Rockstar Games offered PC users a more in-depth help article to assist players through this process. Players can try a direct download of any of these required programs if they failed to install improperly alongside GTA V.

The remaining two tips are common steps that PC gamers should be accustomed to performing when experiencing basic problems. However, they are important to note, as these tips could resolve some issues that fans might be experiencing within Grand Theft Auto V.

“6.) Any Anti-Virus program could potentially block GTAV access, especially when not properly configured for use with GTAV. Please make sure that GTAV is listed as an exception in these programs.

7.) Check your “launcher.log” file located in “My DocumentsRockstar GamesGTA V”. There are helpful errors there that may give more information to assist you in resolving the problem. You can search the Support Site for specific info in that file.”

These tips are simply offered as initial guidelines for Grand Theft Auto V PC players. Users who still need further assistance can always contact Rockstar support for additional help. Additionally, as the Inquisitr pointed out last week, the developer has released numerous title updates since the PC launch of GTA V that improved general game performance and stability.
