Brian Moore: New York Cop Shot In Face Dies, NYPD Mourns Officer’s Death

Officer Brian Moore has died as the result of injuries suffered on Saturday night. According to reports, the 25-year-old New York Police department officer was shot in the face by 35-year-old Demetrius Black. Authorities confirmed Moore and his partner, Officer Erik Jansen, were “in plainclothes in an unmarked police car” when the shooting occurred.

Police Commissioner William J. Bratton confirmed Brian Moore and Erik Jansen were observing the suspect, as he appeared to be “adjusting an object in his waistband.”

Commissioner Bratton said both NYPD officers remained inside the vehicle. However, they pulled up next to the suspect to question him about his behavior.

As reported by NYPD News, the commissioner revealed the details of shooting during a press conference.

“The male immediately removed a firearm from his waistband and turned in the direction of the officers and deliberately fired several times into the vehicle, striking Officer Moore in the head. Both officers were still seated in the vehicle and did not have an opportunity to get out or return fire.”

Officer Brian Moore was immediately transported to Jamaica Hospital, where he underwent surgery to treat the wound. However, doctors confirmed he suffered “severe injuries to his skull and brain.”

The officer remained in a coma for more than 24 hours. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead on Monday afternoon.

Demetrius Black fled the scene immediately after shooting the New York cop in the face. However, he was later apprehended without further incident.

As confirmed by the District Attorney of Queens County, Black was charged with first-degree attempted murder and is currently being held without bond.

District Attorney Richard A. Brown said the shooting “once again reminds us of the dangers that our police officers face each day as they carry out their sworn duty to protect and serve out communities.”

A spokesperson with the NYPD confirmed Demetrius Black has “an extensive arrest history.” His prior convictions include assaulting a police officer and unlawful possession of a weapon.

As reported by New York Daily Mail, Brian Moore’s family has a long history of service with the NYPD. The fallen officer’s father and uncle are retired sergeants and his cousin is also an officer. At the time of his death, Officer Moore had been with the police department five years.

Sources said Demetrius Blackwell will likely be charged with murder for shooting the New York cop in the face. However, District Attorney Richard A. Brown has not confirmed the report.

Officer Brian Moore’s family has asked for their privacy while they mourn the immense loss.
