Tim Tebow Rumors: Philadelphia Eagles Giving Real Shot For Tebow To Make Roster?

Tim Tebow rumors and his role with the Philadelphia Eagles were addressed by Chip Kelly. Tebow had been added to the Eagles in April, but it was never clear whether he was just there to hold a spot, or whether he really had a chance to make the team. Kelly may have given Eagles fans some answers in an interview he gave with NFL Network over the weekend and reported on by Kevin Patra at NFL. Tebow likely already knew what Kelly was going to say, but now everyone else around the NFL does as well.

“I think everybody here that we bring to our organization is here to compete for a job. That’s what Timmy is going to do. He’s an unbelievable competitor…. If we were just going to have guys throw drills, we’d take (Mike) Mayock in the offseason and bring him down here and let him throw to them.”

There had been a lot of chatter during the offseason that Tebow was working on his throwing mechanics, and that he looked like a brand new quarterback on the field. As reported previously on the Inquisitr, the Eagles signed Tebow, but also signed former teammate Mark Sanchez to try to make the team. The worry has been that Sam Bradford won’t be fully recovered from ACL surgery for a while and that the Eagles needed some athletic quarterbacks in camp.

These comments from Chip Kelly come about a week after Mark Sanchez made comments to the press that were interpreted as Tim Tebow being brought in just to work with receivers during camp. It seemed to insinuate that the Philadelphia Eagles only wanted Tebow for practices, and that there wasn’t a real commitment to keeping him on board for the regular season. Sanchez spoke to CSN Philly at the time of the signing.

“He’s obviously a great guy, he works hard. And we needed another guy to throw while Sam’s [Bradford] still recovering. So that’s the reason [for the signing], at least as explained to me. We’re excited about the upcoming year and I think we have a great group.”

Whether the Philadelphia Eagles and Chip Kelly decide to bring in another quarterback to hold Sam Bradford’s spot or not, Tim Tebow is about to get a chance to show the NFL that he can still lead a team. Even if Tebow doesn’t make the final 53-man roster for the Eagles in 2015, simply being with the Eagles during camp could prove to another team that he is worth signing.
