Powerball Winning Numbers May 2: Are You The $70 Million Jackpot Winner?

The jackpot hasn’t been given away since April 18, when one ticket holder in Puerto Rico won $50 million. The still unnamed winner is luckier in more ways than one — according to Forbes, Powerball lottery winnings in Puerto Rico are not subject to federal income tax. However, the winner must pay a mandatory 20 percent state tax.
In addition to the winner in Puerto Rico, there was another big jackpot winner in April. According to the Florida Lottery, one person in McDavid, Florida won $70 million in the April 11 drawing after purchasing a $2 quick-pick ticket at the State Line Gift Shop. The owner of the gift shop will receive $40,000 for selling the ticket that matched all six numbers: 1-12-32-42-58 PB 12.
How much money will you get if you win the $70 million jackpot on May 2? That depends on whether you want all of your money in a single payment, or spread out over 30 years. According to US Mega, the single lump sum payment would be $46.5 million before taxes.
If the annuity option is selected, the lottery would pay out approximately $1.8 million per year after 25 percent federal taxes are taken out. Winners in Puerto Rico would only pay 20 percent to the state, but would not pay federal taxes on their winnings.

Powerball drawings are held on Wednesday and Saturday nights at 11 p.m. ET. Tickets cost $2 each and are sold at lottery retailers in 44 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Purchase a ticket up to one hour before the drawing, although some retailers may stop ticket sales a bit earlier depending on their store hours.
