‘Destiny’ Trials Of Osiris: First Details Teased Ahead Of Full Reveal

Bungie is set to reveal the new Trials of Osiris competitive multiplayer mode that will included in the Destiny: House of Wolves expansion. The studio gave us a tease of the first details ahead of tomorrow’s announcement with a trailer along with a handful of details for PlayStation and Xbox players.

The full Trials of Osiris reveal is scheduled for Wednesday, April 29, at 2 p.m. ET / 11 a.m. PT. Destiny Community Manager David “Deej” Dague will host a Twitch livestream with design leads Lars Bakken and Derek Carroll, plus special guest tripleWRECK from the game’s YouTube community.

Trials of Osiris is a three versus three elimination event where power levels matter, similar to Iron Banner. It comes with its own unique set of Egyptian-themed endgame gear, though.

Last week’s Twitch stream for House of Wolves focused on gear upgrades and the new Reef social area, but also included some Trials of Osiris information. The event will only be available in Destiny on weekends from Friday through Tuesday.

Players will need to head to Queen’s Bay and find Brother Vance. He sells “Passage Coins” that are likely needed to participate in the event. Current speculation is that Motes of Light are used to purchase the coins.

Competing and winning in Trials of Osiris will result in the chance to win certain rewards. Those have yet to be detailed, but last week’s stream suggested that there are different reward tiers, starting with Stone, that can be purchased using Glimmer to win prizes based on the number of wins you earn.

There are also “Trial Supplies” that can be purchased with Passage Coins. The following is what was shown last week.

  • Favor Of Osiris – You have been granted a Favor. You will start the Trials with a win already awarded.
  • Mercy of Osiris – You have been granted Mercy. Your first loss in the Trials will be forgiven.
  • Boon of Osiris – You have been granted a Boon. Winning your first Trials match will count as two.

It appears that Destiny is going for a mode that is even more dependent on wins with Trials of Osiris than even Iron Banner. We’ll have to wait for details on the reward structure to find out.

One question people wish to see answered during the Destiny livestream tomorrow are how quitters will be handled. They were a problem when Iron Banner first launched until Bungie started giving Iron Medallion coins for matches lost. How quitters are handled in the even more win-dependent Trials of Osiris is definitely a point of interest.

House of Wolves will launch for Destiny on May 19. The expansion is included as part of the game’s Season Pass that also include The Dark Below, or can be purchased separately for $20.
