‘Straight Man’ Jacob Lescenski Asks Gay Best Friend To Prom

Jacob Lescenski and Anthony Martinez have an unusual friendship, especially for high school boys.

While gay teens often have to fight against prejudice and the feeling of being an outcast, Lescenski doesn’t think twice about the differences between himself and his gay best friend.

In fact, when it came time to find a date for prom, he figured who better to ask than the boy who seems like a brother.

Jacob chose to ask Martinez with a banner that read as follows.

“You’re hella gay, i’m hella str8, but you’re like my brother, so be my d8?”

It didn’t take long for Martinez to say yes. In fact, he was so pleased with his friend’s show of support that he posted the pic to Twitter.

Since posting it on April 21, the tweet has gone viral with many favorites and retweets and several media outlets taking notice. The Las Vegas teens posed for the following picture to commemorate the ask and acceptance.

You can tell from the expression on Martinez’ face what the gesture meant to him. He’s on the student council and his only usual experience with dances is in the planning of them. Jacob Lescenski changed that when he popped the question, and Martinez wanted the world to know what a great best friend he has.

“He’s a real man, given that he has the guts to fulfill my gay student council dream of always helping out planning dances, and never getting asked. I couldn’t ask for a better person in my life.”

Social media was buzzing with support for the two buds this week.

On Instagram where Jacob originally posted the photo, many showed support as well.

“I also have a straight guy best friend,” wrote one commenter. “I forwarded this picture to him. It’s just amazing how people like you and my bestfriend are so accepting of diversity. I have nothing but praises for you. God bless you and your good heart.”
