Kentucky Senator Rand Paul’s Son Faces DUI Charges After Collision

Rand Paul, the Kentucky senator and Republican presidential hopeful, is in the news and it has nothing to do with the upcoming presidential races. Paul’s son, William Hilton Paul, is facing DUI charges after a collision in Kentucky last week.

According to USA Today, officials are stating that Paul’s son “crashed a maroon 2006 Honda Ridgeline truck into an unoccupied car at 11:24 a.m. Sunday.”

Paul’s son was taken to the University of Kentucky Hospital and treated for minor facial wounds but did not suffer any severe injuries. Police did say that when they took in him, Paul’s son was “belligerent” and “smelled strongly of alcohol,” according to People.

Paul’s son also “failed a field sobriety test and refused to take a blood test.”

Sherelle Roberts, the police spokeswoman, stated that Paul’s son was going to be cited “for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and failure to maintain insurance.”

A witness to the crash told police that Paul’s son was “revving his engine” just before he crashed.

A spokesman for the popular Kentucky senator’s presidential campaign has stated that they have no comment on the incident involving Paul’s son’s DUI and that the senator “does not comment on any private matters in regards to his family.”

Unfortunately, this is not the first time that Paul’s son has gotten into some trouble fueled by alcohol.

The senator’s son was previously cited for “possession of alcohol by a minor in October 2013 at the Keeneland horse racetrack.”

In January of that same year, Paul’s son had some other alcohol-related issues. Paul’s son was arrested at the Charlotte, North Carolina, airport after being charged with “simple assault of a 22-year-old flight attendant, consuming beer or wine underage, disorderly conduct and being intoxicated and disruptive on a US Airways flight.”

While Paul’s son was lucky that the charges were dismissed “under a deferred prosecution program for first time offenders,” William did have to take alcohol education classes and complete over 100 hours of community service.

Despite all the trouble in the past, it appears that with Rand Paul’s son DUI, William Paul has yet to learn his lesson.
