‘The Sims 4 Pets’? Is EA Already Hinting At The Next Expansion Pack?

The Sims 4: Get to Work hasn’t been out for a full month yet, but that hasn’t stopped eager fans from guessing when the next expansion pack will drop. While nobody knows when, there have been many theories on what the second expansion pack will add to The Sims 4. The current prevailing theory is that when the next expansion pack drops, it will bring along some furry friends.

Popular fan website SimsVIP notes that EA may have been dropping clues to players all along. In March, 2014, EA Games sent out a survey, which gave users a voice on possible The Sims 4 content. Among the long list of possible options was dogs.

“Dogs:
Create-a-puppy to develop new best companion for your Sim! Teach your dog new tricks, practice the hunting collectibles, playing with toys, or let participate in a dog show! Make your puppy and help them grow! With age, there will be a faithful and loyal companion, or will it aggressive and independent? Your interactions with your dog will shape its future!”

The SimsVIP also notes that several hints about pets have cropped up in The Sims 4 and the new expansion pack, The Sims 4: Get to Work. To SimsVIP the implication seems clear, The Sims 4: Pets is probably on the horizon.

It’s no secret that The Sims 4 got off to a rocky start. The newest installment of the decade old life simulation franchise has seemed slow to catch on with fans. Some critics called The Sims 4 the most disappointing game of 2014. That left EA Games with a lot of ground to make up. The Sims 4: Outdoor Retreat and The Sims 4: Get to Work seemed to turn things around. Both the gameplay pack and expansion pack were positively reviewed.

Still, EA could lose much of the goodwill it’s gained in recent months if the next release goes poorly.

The next expansion pack has not been officially released. In fact, EA has yet to announce whether the next The Sims 4 release will be an expansion pack or a gameplay pack. That hasn’t stopped fans from weighing in on the official The Sims 4 forums.

One user is adamantly against the idea of The Sims 4: Pets.

“Honestly I really didn’t like the idea of them in The Sims 3 like at all, they became really annoying pretty easily even if you controlled them, If they are going to be in The Sims 4 they need to make it so there are ways to turn other pets off that randomly come into your lot and trash the place or spawn a whole bunch of other animals too.”

Another user is fine with a pets expansion pack, provided it’s done right.

“MORE WILD ANIMALS
we’ve all seen a deer once or twice in the sims 3 and a few wild horses
but what about bears or wolves? They don’t attack you unless you provoke it and have the attacks like in sims 2 where its just a bunch of smoke and funny hitting
no one dies

add a few nature reserves or nature trails where you can see deer, rabbits, foxes, etc
maybe a few bears xD

Have new careers like breeders and pet stores (as an addition for those who have the latest EP) or online catalogs where you can buy things for your furry friends
Honestly things like that would be amazing and open more opportunities for gameplay staying interesting
Maybe you have a rodent infestation in your house from being a slobby sim… [sic]”

EA has a strict policy of not commenting on plans for The Sims 4 before they are officially announced. So until that time arrives, fans can only speculate and hope the next release is the one they want.
