Ashley Olsen Retires From Acting at 25

Ashley Olsen says she and her twin sister Mary-Kate are unlikely to ever act again.

Ashley, just 25-years-old, broke the news to UK’s Elle magazine, saying:

“We worked non-stop until we were 18. Then we decided to take a break and go to school – and that was when we decided to question whether we would carry on in entertainment. It was time to step behind the process. I wanted to work on other things.”

Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen, who are the brains behind multiple fashion lines including, The Row, Elizabeth and James, and Olsenboye, rose to fame on the ’80s sitcom Full House, in which they played the youngest member of the Tanner family, Michelle. Their last film together was the 2004 bomb New York Minute.

Though Ashley and her twin are no longer in the Hollywood spotlight — comfortably occupied currently by their sister, Elizabeth Olsen (Silent House) — she explained that she and Mary-Kate are still incredibly in tune.

“It doesn’t mean I’m not interested in Hollywood, I like the way it operates and the people who are involved and the sense of possibility. But if I ever do get back in, it’s not going to be as an actress. It just felt right to move away.”

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen emphasize the importance of staying “grounded” when it comes to making it in Hollywood:
