Job Opening! Occupy Supporters Need Not Apply

Fear not, recent college grads! Times may be tough all around, but the land is a-ripe for the picking for job-seekers. Especially if you happen to live in the Philadelphia area and graduated with a specialty in law. I should mention the catch. You pretty much can’t be a liberal of any kind.

Above the Law, a blog that gives tips to law grads and helps them find jobs, picked up on an unusual Craigslist ad posted by a Philly law firm. The company is looking for a part-time “contract litigation associate,” though they admit that they prefer candidates who are “capitalists, believers in the Constitution, champions of free enterprise, and advocates of limited government.” So who does that leave out for an interview? “Supporters of the Occupy Wall Street movement, those that protested the War in Iraq, or anyone that thinks America should be more like Europe.”

Yikers! That’s pretty direct.

Though as a private firm/business, they have the right to screen, interview and hire/not-hire anyone they want for any old reason they want (and they get to be as snobbish about it as they want), some are calling foul. One blogger said that anyone who dares apply “has the self-awareness of a head of lettuce.” It sounds like a pretty menial job at low pay, so any applicant might be sour on capitalism in the first place. “But this is why capitalists win: they’re very good at selling their lifestyles to people who will never attain them.”

Do you think the post was in bad taste?
