Looking at the 2016 General election polls in battleground states is slightly less alarming for Hillary Clinton supporters today than it was a few days ago. Following the scandal generated by the FBI Director a little over a week ago, there’s no denying that Trump made inroads in multiple polls in these vital swing states. But Clinton still has the advantage.

Florida General Election Polls

As reported by the Associated Press , Florida will play a big role in the 2016 election. Florida is a state Democrats want to win, but one that Donald Trump and the Republicans probably have to win if Trump is going to win the presidency.

The most recent Florida polls show Hillary Clinton support in general is firming up. Just last week, several polls showed Trump either tied or in the lead in Florida, but the latest Fox News poll has Clinton four points ahead, whereas the latest CNN poll gives her a two-point lead.

Pennsylvania General Election Polls

In Pennsylvania – where according to the Associated Press – Republicans had hoped to pull off an upset by taking a state that traditionally goes Democratic – recent election polls results show Hillary Clinton in the lead.

The Susquehanna poll of Pennsylvania puts Clinton’s lead at only two points. But recent CNN and Monmouth polls give Hillary Clinton a four-point lead. And the current Quinnipiac Pennsylvania election poll puts Clinton five points ahead.

Colorado General Election Polls

While the current Gravis poll in Colorado claims Trump and Clinton are tied there, other polls in Colorado give Hillary Clinton a significant lead. PPP and Keating Research both say that Clinton leads in Colorado by five points over Donald Trump.

Magellan Strategies – a Republican leaning poll – puts Hillary Clinton’s lead in Colorado at six points. So it seems unlikely Trump will be able to flip this vital Western state.

Iowa General Election Polls

Iowa is one of the battleground states where Donald Trump has been doing relatively well. The most recent Iowa election poll by Emerson gives Trump a three-point lead.

A Washington Post /Survey Monkey poll completed at the middle of October showed Donald Trump with a four-point lead over Hillary Clinton in the state of Iowa. Other polls make Trump’s lead even greater.

Michigan General Election Polls

Hillary Clinton holds a substantial lead over Donald Trump in Michigan in virtually all statewide election polls. The latest poll from the Detroit Free Press gives Clinton a four-point lead, while the current PPP poll has Clinton ahead by five points.

The most recent Fox News poll in Michigan puts Hillary Clinton three points ahead of Trump. Given the large African-American population in Detroit and other major urban areas in Michigan, it’s unlikely Trump will be able to shift this state into the red column.

Nevada General Election Polls

Until recently, many polls in Nevada showed Hillary Clinton taking the lead there, but the last week of FBI involvement in the election process seems to have taken a toll on Clinton’s numbers in this state. The most recent CNN poll in Nevada gives Donald Trump a six-point lead.

The Republican leaning Remington Research poll puts Donald Trump’s lead in Nevada at four points. Prior to the letter FBI Director Comey sent to congressional Republicans, the Emerson poll showed Hillary Clinton with a two-point lead in Nevada.

Ohio General Election Polls

The most recent Quinnipiac 2016 election poll in Ohio gives Donald Trump a substantial five-point lead over Hillary Clinton. But this is hardly a surprise, since the Clinton campaign harbored few hopes of actually winning Ohio.

On the other hand, an Ohio poll by Emerson completed on October 29 had Clinton and Trump tied. So if not for the manufactured controversies that immediately followed this poll, Ohio might have been a lot closer than it is now.

Virginia General Election Polls

The general consensus is that state of Virginia is solidly in the Clinton column. In fact, in recent elections Virginia has been increasingly Democratic. The latest Roanoke College election poll in Virginia puts Hillary Clinton seven points ahead of Donald Trump.

The current Washington Post poll in Virginia gives Hillary Clinton a six-point lead, while the latest PPP poll of Virginia puts her lead at five points.

Wisconsin General Election Polls

While in its most recent gubernatorial election, Wisconsin might have seemed like it was leaning to the far right, it’s definitely coming back to the Democrats in the 2016 presidential election. All recent election polls in Wisconsin show Hillary Clinton with a big lead over Donald Trump.

The Marquette poll of Wisconsin gives Clinton a six-point lead over Trump, as do the Loras College and Emerson polls. Even the Republican leaning Remington Research gives Clinton a four-point lead in the state of Wisconsin.

North Carolina General Election Polls

Both the Quinnipiac and CBS News /YouGov election polls in North Carolina show Hillary Clinton with a three-point lead over Donald Trump. And the Quinnipiac poll was mostly conducted after the FBI “revelations” of last week.

The Elon College poll shows a dead heat in North Carolina, while the most recent NBC News / Washington Post poll – conducted prior to the FBI Director Comey letter – gave Clinton a six-point lead over Trump in this battleground state.

Early Voting in 2016

General election polls taken now may actually may be under representing Hillary Clinton’s support because of the impact of early voting. As reported by CNN , Hillary Clinton is enjoying a substantial lead over Donald Trump in early voting, particularly among Latinos. At this point, over 33 million Americans have already voted in the presidential election. This gives Hillary Clinton a safety margin that Donald Trump can ill afford.
